The state's power corporations have streamlined the process for acquiring new electricity connections by moving it online. However, as part of this process, consumers were initially obligated to submit an affidavit stamp offline at the office. A petition addressing this matter was submitted to the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission. In response, on Wednesday, December 20,2023, the commission eliminated the compulsory requirement for stamp paper.

Yavanti Kumar Boliya, the Energy Advisor and Engineer-in-Chief of the state, explained that the commission's decision was prompted by a petition from all three power distribution corporations in Rajasthan – Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur. The change signifies a notable shift in the approach to documentation for obtaining electricity connections, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.

The petition emphasized the shift of the application process for new electricity connections to an online platform. As per the regulations, applicants had to acquire stamp paper for the relevant fee, affix their signatures as part of the contract, and personally submit it at the corporation's office.

This procedure posed inconvenience for consumers. In response to the issue, during the hearing, the commission issued an order on Wednesday to eliminate the compulsory need for submitting physical stamp paper along with the application for a new connection. This decision aims to streamline and simplify the application process for the benefit of consumers.
