Udaipur, January 9, 2025 - A stampede near the Lord Venkateshwara Temple in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on January 8, 2025, left six devotees dead and many injured. Thousands had gathered to collect free tokens for the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam festival starting January 10.

The chaos occurred at a token distribution counter near Vishnu Nivasam temple when the crowd surged, leading to a stampede. Authorities said the large turnout overwhelmed the arrangements.

The festival, which allows special darshan of the deity, attracts devotees from across the country.
