State Govt withdraws SLP against Green Tribunal’s Order

The state government withdrew the SLP presented in the Supreme Court against the National Green Tribunal’s order for all the mines operating in the state to obtain the EC (environment clearance). After the withdrawal, now the 30,000 mines will have to get the EC before renewal in a month’s time.

SME Deepak Tanwar said that the state decided to withdraw the SLP before it getting rejected. National Green Tribunal had made it mandatory for the mines operating in the states of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana and others to get the clearance from the environment ministry, going against the mining policy and state governments. For this, 6 months’ time was given from 13 January.

With the withdrawal of the SLP, now the mine owners and central government can go to Supreme Court against the order of the Tribunal.

Now, the 30,000 mines will have to abide by the orders of the Tribunal. Before renewal, clearance has to be obtained. The lack of this would result in closing of the mines after 13 June.
