University’s Central Student Union organized a meeting of working committee in which Paramveer Singh Chundawat (in photo above), President of Central Student Union pointed towards the loopholes and flaws in the present rules governing the election procedure. He also asked University’s administration to take it into consideration and either re-writes or amends these rules and brings them into effect from 2012-13 elections.

The meeting took place today at the Student Council’s office. In the meeting, the points suggested by Paramveer Singh Chundawat were agreed by all the members and were passed to be forwarded to the University administration. Kailash Sodani, Dean, Student welfare, Dr. Sunil Aashopa, Law Specialist and Dr. Arun Vyas, Advocate were also present in the meeting.

Chundawat jotted the major flaws on the basis of his own experience in the elections and suggested measures to resolve these problems. He strongly mentioned the least involvement of students in the election because of the long election procedure as the biggest limitation of the system.

Secondly, less importance is given to the posts of Vice President, Chief Secretary and Additional Secretary though equal amount of time, money and focus is put in the election to these posts.

Thirdly, the election ends up in higher expenditure despite of Lyngdoh Committee’s norms.

Fourth, no focus is laid on constructive work due to the inner-politics of persons on the posts.

and Fifth, different persons on different posts with varied thinking lead to improper functioning of the unit.

He also suggested a few measures to amend the law. His suggestions include election of only one president and one representative on college level and student union president of college should be able to elect vice president, secretary and additional secretary from the college representatives and class representatives. The total number of working members in the unit should also be fixed. He expressed that the amendments or the re-writing of rules should be done in the guidelines based on the experience of the candidates in the election.
