Mohan Lal Sukhadia University (MLSU) has recently closed its admission process for the 2013-14 session on a high cut off percentage, all the available seats have been allotted to the shortlisted students. Whereas, a student union group, Chatra Sangarsh Samiti (CSS) has announced indefinite hunger strike demanding increase in number of seats in the University.
Today the members of CSS led by Amit Paliwal, along with few rejected students reached administrative wing of the University and demonstrated there; soon after Amit Paliwal declared to be on hunger strike till satisfactory number of seats are added in all the various faculties.
According to Amit Paliwal, around 2500 students per faculty had applied for admission in various colleges, out of which a 450 to 580 students were given admission while more than two thousand candidates were rejected.
“Being one of the biggest university of Rajasthan it is a must that it can absorb maximum number of students, especially when the district is surrounded by rural and low income families”, said Amit Paliwal.
According to Prof. I.V. Trivedi, Vice Chancellor, MLSU, almost all the faculties have reached maximum capacity of their respectively available seats; where Commerce College has 580 seats, Science 450 and Arts has the capacity of 420 students. In the absence of sufficient infrastructure and lecturers increase in seat is not possible, he added.
“Besides the available infrastructure, university also needs approval from State government for increasing seats which is again a long process in itself”, said Prof. I.V. Trivedi.
One of the senior members of CSS informed that a group of students and members of CSS along with Surya Prakash Suhalka, Vijay Kumawat, Viru Sisodia and Ashok Sharma met Sajjan Katara, MLA Rural and described the situation.
