Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Wins Floor Test; Revokes Astrologers Appointment

Udaipur, May 13, 2026: The recently elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu came out with flying colours on his parties first floor test in the Tamil Nadu assembly. Securing the support votes of 144 MLA in the assembly (required was 118), CJ Vijay, the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu won the floor test. While 22 MLA voted against the CM, 5 abstained from voting.

The floor test also exposed in a chink in the armour of AIADMK when a major split happened. The SP Velumani led faction of the AIADMK supported the new CM while the Palaniswami-led faction ordered its MLAs to vote against the new CM or else face disciplinary action. The rebel camp led by Velumani supported the government with its 30 MLAs. WhileVCK also declared unconditional support to Vijay, the TVK was supported by the Congress, VCK, IUML and the breakaway faction of AIADMK. The drama happened with DMK staged a walkout after the LoP of the Tamil Nadu assembly asserted that TVK did not have a full majority.

Revoked Astrologers Appointment

Vijay faced tremendous backlash for his appointment of astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to CM, the Chief Minister revkoed the order. After the floor test the TN government issued an order saying that the appointment was revoked. Parties supporting the TVK had expressed disappointment in the appointment, saying that personal beliefs cannot interfere with governance. Pandit is Vijay's astrologer and the parties spokesperson.
