Hundreds of teachers from government schools of Udaipur region had staged mass protest outside the Collector’s office against the latest orders issued by the government of Rajasthan regarding the changes of school timing from October 1, 2011.
Teachers demanded to restore the order which says that from April 1 to September 30 the school timings will be from morning 7:30 to 3:00 and from October 1 to March 31 the timings will be from morning 8:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon.
Tulsiram Nayak, a teacher from Kherwara said, “We ask the parents that are they ready to send their children from morning 7:30 to 3 pm? The life of a student in rural area is totally different; with studies they also have to work in the fields and at home so these timings are totally unacceptable.”
Vasumati Mehta, Head mistress in government school of panchayat samiti Bhinder said, “These timings are not suitable for both the students and the teachers, especially for female teachers who have to finish their daily chores at home before going to school; even students of primary schools cannot stay for so long in school.”
On September 22, a memorandum was given to the state’s Chief Minister and Education Minister by Rajasthan Shikshak Congress on this issue which also included the matter of the Para Teachers who are working on less salary and their posts are not permanent which puts a question mark on their future security and professional career.
