Udaipur, November 18, 2024: A religious structure belonging to a particular community was partially demolished by some miscreants in the Dabok police station area. Following a complaint, the police arrested two youths on the suspicion of being behind the incident. This has sparked anger among residents of the village leading to unrest in the area.
According to the police, the incident occurred early yesterday morning in Sukhwada locality under Sakariya Khedi Gram Panchayat. Some people reportedly used a bulldozer to demolish the front portion of a religious structure. Following the incident, an individual named Salim filed a report at the Dabok police station demanding action against the culprits. He said the structure was a place of worship which had been built in memory of his ancestors.
The police detained two individuals following which a large crowd gathered at the police station, staging a protest and demanding the release of the detained persons. Station Officer Chandrashekhar attempted to mediate with the villagers, but they remained firm in their demands. Heated arguments ensued between the police and the villagers, escalating tensions. Vallabhnagar MLA Udaylal Dangi intervened to try and defuse the situation.
The villagers have alleged that the site was being used for illegal activities under the guise of religion. They claimed to have previously submitted a memorandum to the SDM regarding this. Local women alleged that people who visited the site particularly on Sundays harassed them, making it unsafe for them to fetch water alone.
