RSRTC recently launched a large-scale campaign to catch ticket thieves...
The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is facing severe financial issues, losing about Rs 90 crores every month. Alarmingly, a significant portion of this loss is due to ticket thefts allegedly involving their own staff. Currently, ticket thefts in Roadways buses are estimated at around Rs 45 lakhs daily. To tackle this issue, the RSRTC recently launched a large-scale campaign to catch ticket thieves. During inspections, 47 out of 68 passengers were found travelling without tickets.
In response to the rise in ticketless travel, the RSRTC management has taken strict measures against conductors and bus staff involved in the fraud. For the first time, guilty conductors have been suspended, and legal action is being initiated against them, including filing FIRs.
New Investigation Tactics
To improve their investigation methods, the RSRTC has changed its approach. Due to concerns about possible collusion between ticket inspectors and bus conductors, the management has conducted sting operations using trusted personnel. Once ticketless travel was confirmed, flying squads inspected the buses, and the inspections were monitored live by officials at headquarters. These sting operations took place in several districts.
Stricter Actions Against Offenders
In the past, Roadways conductors and contracted bus staff faced suspension and blacklisting. However, the RSRTC is now filing legal cases against those found guilty. This step aims to help the corporation recover from its financial losses. Legal actions have already been initiated against conductors and staff at the Nagaur, Alwar, and Jhalawar depots.
