US President Donald Trump faces strong criticism in his country after amplifying a controversial podcast clip calling India and China 'hellholes,' drawing criticism from Democrats and Indian-American groups

April 25, 2026 - US President Donald Trump, who endorsed a podcaster’s “hellhole” remark  on India and China, is now facing backlash in his own country.

Trump had reposted a four-page transcript/video of American radio show host Michael Savage, which described countries like India and China as “hellholes” in a discussion on birthright citizenship in the US.

Leaders of the Democratic Party have slammed Trump for amplifying “racist trash”. In a post on X, the House Foreign Affairs Committee-Democrats said: “Americans are struggling, and he's busy amplifying racist trash on social media, treating the presidency like a reality TV gig. This is a serious moment. Our country deserves leadership that acts like it”.

The Hindu American Foundation also issued a statement saying it was deeply disturbed by Trump sharing a "hateful, racist screed" targeting Indian and Chinese Americans.

US Vice-President JD Vance too was targeted by angry Indo-Americans. "Any comment on the President insulting immigrants from 'China or India or some other hellhole on the planet'. Do you also think that India is a hellhole and Chinese or Indian immigrants denigrate America?”, wrote Congressman Ro Khanna in a social media post.
