Trump Govt May Revoke Visas of Iranian Elites in the US

At least four Iranian nationals connected to the government reportedly have already had visas or Green Cards revoked; two individuals may be facing deportation

April 7, 2026 - The US government is planning a large-scale visa crackdown targeting Iranian elites. Reports say up to 4,000 visas of Iranian nationals — especially those linked to Iran’s political or economic establishment — are under review for cancellation.

This appears to be part of a broader wartime policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia since February 28, 2026, involving the US, Israel and Iran. The Trump administration says the move is based on national security concerns and alleged links of the selected individuals to Iran’s ruling system.

At least four Iranian nationals connected to the government reportedly have already had visas or Green Cards revoked. Two individuals are said to have been detained and are facing deportation in the US.

The US State Department announced that Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, the niece of former Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps chief and commander of the Quds Force Qassem Soleimani who was killed in a US airstrike in 2020, and her daughter had been arrested on Friday by immigration agents after Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked their Green Cards.

This move could lead to possible reciprocal steps by Iran targeting US visa holders in Iran.

The US had already imposed visa bans and restrictions on Iranian officials and families earlier in 2026 and had revoked visas of diplomats and elites even before the current escalation.

According to reports, the UAE has also started restricting Iranian residents and visas as also closing down institutions as a retaliatory measure against the continued drone and missile attacks carried out on the country by Iran.
