Trump Ready to End War Even if Strait of Hormuz Stays Blocked: Reports
West Asia war enters second month with Iran drone strikes, Dubai tanker fire, UN peacekeeper deaths and rising global tensions
March 31, 2026 – The West Asia war has entered the second month and is showing no signs of any resolution. Environmental concerns have spiked after Iran attacked a Kuwait oil tanker berthed at Dubai port causing a fire which, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation feared could lead to an oil spill. The tanker Al-Salmi was in an anchorage area of a Dubai port when it was hit. UAE authorities, have, however confirmed that there is no oil spill and that there were no injuries, either.
Three United Nations peacekeepers were killed in two separate incidents in Lebanon in the past 24 hours prompting France to call for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the US President Donald Trump has told his aides that he is ready to end the war with Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz continues to be blocked by Iran. Trump has said he would leave a “complex operation” to reopen the chokepoint of the Strait for a "later date".
Saudi Arabia has intercepted 10 drones from Iran over the past few hours, according to its Defence Ministry. Iran has said its attacks on the neighbouring countries were only to target “enemy aggressors”.
“Iran respects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and considers it a brotherly nation,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X, adding “Our operations are aimed at enemy aggressors who have no respect for Arabs or Iranians, nor can provide any security. ... High time to eject US forces.”
