Trump Urges EU to Put 100% Tariffs on India, China to Force Russia Deal, Say Reports
According to reports, President Donald Trump is seeking trade pressure on India, China to stop them buying crude from Russia and isolate it
Sept 10, 2025 - US President Donald Trump has urged the European Union (EU) to hit India and China with up to 100% tariffs, according to reports, therefore seeking EU support to isolate Moscow economically. India and China are two major buyers of oil from Russia and Trump’s call to EU is an attempt to collectively put revenue-loss pressure on Russia thus forcing it to reach a peace deal with Ukraine.
Reports say the President made a call during a meeting of US and EU officials in Washington, DC, yesterday September 9.
The US President, who had promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war as soon as he came to power, is finding it difficult to broker the peace deal even as Russia continues its attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Now Trump is looking to target China and India with steeper tariffs if EU nations join him in doing so, too, say reports. The intention is to force the two countries to stop buying crude from Russia thereby leading to revenue loss for Russia.
Indian goods are already facing tariffs up to 50% while Chinese exports duties are at 30%.
