Tuhin Kanta Pandey is New SEBI Chief

Currently the Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Revenue, Tuhin Kanta Pandey will replace Madhabi Puri Buch whose tenure ends on March 1, 2025

February 28, 2025 - Finance Secretary and Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey has been appointed as the 11th Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), chairman. He will replace Madhabi Puri Buch whose three-year term as current SEBI chief will end on March 1, 2025. Pandey’s appointment was announced by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet

Pandey is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Odisha cadre. He has a notable track record, known for Air India privatisation and playing a key role in the 2025-26 Budget which provided Rs 1 lakh crore in tax relief to the middle class. He is also part of the team that has drafted the new Income Tax Bill which has been tabled in the Parliament for approval.

His vast and impressionable experience in the finance sector is expected to bring valuable insights to SEBI's regulatory functions.
