Udaipur will be connected to South India by rail once electrification and redevelopment work on the route is complete
Udaipur, November 25, 2024 - The electrification work on the 300-km railway track between Udaipur to Ahmedabad is nearly over. Once this is completed and the ongoing redevelopment work on the Asarwa to Kalupur section is done, Udaipur will be connected to South India by rail.
The CRS (Commission of Railway Safety) inspection of the Asarwa-Himatnagar railway track under Western Railway was done on November 19 following completion of the electrification work. During this electric engines were run on the track at a speed of 110 km/hr.
So as of now, out of the 300 km track from Udaipur to Asarwa, only the electrification of the 42 km stretch from Shamlaji to Himatnagar remains. Once this is done then the CRS inspection for the Shamlaji to Himatnagar stretch will be carried out. With completion of this, electric engines will be able to run from Udaipur to Asarwa.
The electrification work on the track from Udaipur to Ahmedabad is being carried out by two railway divisions. The North-Western Railway Division is responsible for the work from Udaipur to Himatnagar, while the Western Railway Division is handling the work from Ahmedabad to Himatnagar.
According to sources, owing to the ongoing work at Kalupur station, some platforms are currently unavailable, and as a result, no new trains are being brought to this station. This work is expected to be completed in a few months after which trains will be able to travel from Udaipur to Ahmedabad and continue to other stations.
