Udaipur city became Rajasthan’s first municipal corporation to be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). The certification was given by Indian Government and Quality Council of India (QCI). This makes Udaipur the first among the seven municipal corporations in Rajasthan to be declared ODF. Not only that, Udaipur is also Rajasthan’s first city with a population of over 1.5 Lakh to be declared ODF.

Ward Councillors got reports verified by Schools and NGOs after the initial set of effort by Municipal Corporation. Municipal Corporation prepared a complete report and sent it to Central Government last month. After this, QCI team came to Udaipur a couple of days back for survey. QCI team visited residential colonies, schools, areas adjoining lake, temporary housings etc. During their visit, they did not spot any case of open defecation. Basis this, they declared Udaipur as Open Defecation Free.

For being declared ODF, a city needs to ensure that 80% of houses need to have toilets and 20% need to be covered by public convenient toilets. Awareness campaigns need to be run about not defecating in open. No one should be found defecating in open.
