UMC Receives Approval for Elevated Road Construction

Udaipur, December 12,2024 - The state government has approved Rs 136.80 crore for the construction of a 2.7 km long elevated road in Udaipur. This road will connect the City Railway Station to Banshi Paan. The funding for the project will be shared between the Municipal Corporation, UDA, and the state government.

The Project’s Cost Will Be Shared As Follows

  • Municipal Corporation: Rs 47.91 crore (35%)

  • UDA: Rs 61.60 crore (45%)

  • State Government: Rs 27.38 crore (20%)

Project Details

This elevated flyover will be a two-lane road. It is part of the Corporation's ambitious plan to ease traffic congestion in the city. The project has been cleared, and construction is expected to begin soon. MLA Tarachand Jain had earlier secured a budget approval of Rs 210 crore for the road.

Tender Process

The Corporation issued a tender worth Rs 179.14 crore for the road construction. Twelve agencies participated, and the lowest bidder was Transrail Lighting Private Limited, who agreed to complete the project for Rs 136.89 crore. The estimated cost in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was Rs 208 crore.

Traffic and Congestion Relief

The elevated road is expected to help reduce the traffic jams in areas like Udiapole, Surajpole, and Court Chauraha. Currently, 69,258 vehicles pass daily on the Udiapole to Collector's Residence route. This number is expected to rise to 80,000 by 2025 and 1,14,869 by 2030.

Opposition to the Project

Former Deputy Mayor Paras Singhvi has been against the construction of the elevated road from the beginning. He did not attend the ground-breaking ceremony on November 17 and later vacated his office. He handed over the keys to his office and car to the Municipal Corporation, stating it was due to the completion of his term. However, Singhvi remains opposed to the project.
