Udaipur, March 18, 2025 - Artists will soon have a special place in Udaipur where they can stay and work on their art projects. These cottages, called "Artist Residency," are being built by artists from across the country at their own expense to promote art in the city. The cottages are being constructed in the Takhman Art Gallery premises near Charak Hostel in the Amba Mata area. Many architects, marble traders, and other supporters are helping voluntarily without charging any fees. Financial contributions from artists and art lovers range from Rs 50,000/- to Rs 15 lakh.
The first phase of construction has already begun and is expected to be completed within three months. These cottages will provide accommodation for artists visiting Udaipur for residency projects.
Need for Accommodation Facilities
Sandeep Paliwal, the secretary of Takhman Art Kala, mentioned that over 100 artists from India and abroad visit Takhman every year. Many wish to stay longer to work on projects, but the lack of accommodation has been a challenge. Now, this long-planned project is finally under construction.
Late Padma Bhushan Artist's Contribution
Senior artist Raghunath Sharma shared that Padma Bhushan awardee A. Ramachandran from Delhi played a key role in conceptualizing this project. He frequently visited Udaipur for art projects and contributed significantly to this initiative.
