Udaipur BDS Student Hangs Herself, Alleges Harassment by College Staff

Udaipur, July 25, 2025 - A final year BDS student of a private dental college in Udaipur took her own life by hanging last night. Her body was discovered by her roommate at around 11:00 pm and was immediately taken to hospital where doctors declared her dead.

The deceased has been identified as Shweta Singh (25), a resident of Jammu. Her father is a constable in the police department. Shweta was the only child of her parents.

The incident is of Pacific Dental College, Bedla. A note was recovered from the student’s room, in which she has made serious allegations of mental harassment by the college staff.

As news of the student’s death spread, other students began protests on the college campus today Friday morning.

The protesting students claimed that the deceased had been a victim of prolonged harassment by the college administration, which drove her to take this extreme step. They also alleged that they are now being pressured to stop the protest.

Upon receiving information, Sukher police station officials arrived at the scene and tried to bring the situation under control.

Serious Allegations Against Mentors

In her note, Shweta has accused two faculty members — “Mahi Ma’am” and “Bhagwat Sir” —of mentally harassing her over the past two years. She wrote that while other students from her batch became interns two to three months ago, she was being forced to take internal exams with junior students.

The note read: “They said the exams would be held in two months, but it has been more than two years now. I don’t know when I’ll get my degree or when final year will end. They have tortured me so much that I no longer have the courage to say anything.”

Further, she wrote: “These people have ruined our careers. I don’t know how many students they passed after taking money — without them even attending classes — and failed others as they pleased. A new batch has been created; if you pay, you pass. Otherwise, the staff sucks your blood. I can’t bear it anymore.”

This incident has raised serious questions about the college administration. Students are demanding justice and the police have begun an investigation. Given the grave accusations made in the note, there are growing calls for a thorough and impartial probe.
