Udaipur, May 21, 2025 - Geeta Samota, a Sub-Inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) posted at Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap Dabok Airport, has created history by successfully summiting Mount Everest, standing at 8,849 metres (29,032 ft). She is the first woman officer of CISF to achieve this feat.
In an extraordinary display of courage, grit and determination, Geeta has etched her name in history for achieving this milestone on May 19, 2025. It is the culmination of her ambitious “Seven Summits” dream, which began in 2019.
Geeta hails from a small village – Chak - in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. Her early life was rooted in simplicity and hard work growing up in a modest family as one of five sisters. In her college years, she excelled as a hockey player, but an unfortunate injury cut short her sporting aspirations.
Geeta joined the CISF in 2011 and her dedication earned her a spot in the basic mountaineering course at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) training institute in Auli, Uttarakhand, in 2015 where she stood out as the only woman in her batch.
Her exceptional performance led to advanced training in 2017, marking her as the first CISF officer to complete such rigorous preparation. In 2019, she became the first woman from any Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to summit both Mount Satopanth (7,075 metres) in Uttarakhand and Mount Lobuche (6,119 metres) in Nepal.
Though she was a key member of the 2021 Everest expedition, it was cancelled. Unfazed, she then accepted the challenging goal of the “Seven Summits” expedition.
She became the fastest Indian woman to climb Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 metres) in Australia), Mount Elbrus (5,642 metres) in Russia, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres) in Tanzania and Mount Aconcagua (6,961 metres) in Argentina) in a mere six months and 27 days between 2021 and early 2022. In addition, she broke the national record by climbing five peaks in three days in the isolated Ladakh region of Rupshu.
Senior CISF officials have lavished praise on Geeta’s achievement, calling it not just a personal triumph, but a milestone moment for the force and a powerful representation of the growing role of women in India’s uniformed services.
