An open letter written by Udaipur Collector Bishnu Charan Mallick on the occasion of Mother’s Day has moved the hearts of many a mothers with quite a few women vowing to never let their children drive a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet.

An open letter written by Udaipur Collector Bishnu Charan Mallick on the occasion of Mother’s Day has moved the hearts of many a mothers with quite a few women vowing to never let their children drive a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet.

Mallick had in his letter shared a person incident with women to raise awareness about road safety. In the letter addressed to mothers, Mallick narrated an incident that happened when he went to a friend’s place for extending condolence on the death of his nephew (19yrs) who died in a road accident due to head injury. The boy was not wearing a helmet at time of the incident.

Mallick mentioned that he watched as the boy’s mother was losing consciousness every other minute while mourning her son’s death.

Mallick said that mothers are more close to son and if they are determined then they will not allow their sons to drive on the road without helmet. He suggested that number of road casualties could decrease significantly because of this.

Touched by the letter, quite a few women, both working and housewife have taken it on to themselves to spread awareness about helmets and road safety in their organisations as well as their close vicinity. These women are planning to start a campaign to gather mothers and take a vow from them that they would not let their sons drive without a helmet.
