Udaipur Municipal Corporation has started the process for the elevated road project connecting City Station to the District Collector's residence. On Wednesday, July 7,2024 the corporation invited tenders for the project, which has received state government approval and is set to cost around Rs 180 crore.
Mayor Govind Singh Tank, after discussions with Executive Engineer Mukesh Pujari and other officials, announced the tender invitations. The road will feature two lanes, with one lane descending at Court Chouraha (Chetak). The project is expected to proceed swiftly, with the possibility of vehicles using the road within two years.
The elevated road will span 2.65 kilometers and be 12 meters wide on each side, providing a much-needed improvement in connectivity. The design of the road includes careful planning of its height and curves. Once a contractor is selected, construction is likely to start around September 20, 2024.
Currently, the government has allocated Rs 210 crore for the project. Despite years of planning and detailed project reports (DPRs) without progress, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, MLA Tarachand Jain, and Mayor Tank pushed the project forward. Their efforts included a new DPR and a strong presentation to the High Court. With the court’s approval, the state government included the elevated road in its budget announcement.
