At a recent meeting chaired by District Collector Arvind Poswal at the Collectorate auditorium on June 20, 2024, the District Environment Committee focused on enhancing environmental conservation efforts in Udaipur. The Collector underscored the importance of preserving the city's natural beauty through various initiatives.

Promotion of Greenery and Pollution Control

The Collector stressed the need for increased plantation activities, particularly in areas around dumping yards. Directives were issued to RIICO and the Pollution Control Board regarding the proper disposal of marble slurry. The committee discussed enhancing pollution prevention measures, prioritizing the upkeep of Bagdarah Nature Park, and fostering innovative tourism development.

Wetland Protection and Site Cleanliness

Attention was drawn to the Wetland Notification for Udaipur district, with a focus on ongoing development efforts at Menar Lake and other sites. Maintaining cleanliness standards, as per specified regulations, was emphasized to ensure the preservation of these natural areas.

Tourism and Waste Management

In efforts to maintain cleanliness at tourist spots, the committee instructed inspections and penalties for polythene usage. Plans were also outlined for managing disposable waste like cups and plates at major destinations. Additionally, awareness messages on cleanliness will be prominently displayed at entry points across the city.

Additional Environmental Measures

The meeting deliberated on banning polythene use during official gatherings, ensuring proper waste disposal in district hospitals, and addressing concerns over mining and deforestation to prevent water pollution. Proposals for eco-tourism policies were also discussed to promote sustainable tourism practices.
