The Central Government's Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, is gearing up to introduce the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System in Rajasthan. This initiative aims to evaluate cleanliness and safety standards in various hospitality establishments such as hotels, resorts, homestays, lodges, etc.

Implementation in Udaipur

Udaipur, renowned for its tourism, is expected to witness the swift implementation of Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System. The system will play a crucial role in ensuring the city's cleanliness and enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.

Workshops and Stakeholder Engagement

State teams of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and the Tourism Department will conduct workshops for stakeholders involved in the hospitality sector. These workshops will provide crucial information and guidance on the development and implementation of the Clean Green Leaf Rating System.

Three-Tier Committee System

A three-tier committee system is proposed for the effective implementation of the rating system. This system will streamline the evaluation process and ensure fairness and transparency in assigning ratings to establishments.

Criteria for Ratings

Ratings under the Clean Green Leaf Rating System will be based on various criteria including cleanliness, sanitation facilities, greywater management, solid waste management, and appropriate disposal practices. The objective is to mitigate pollution in water bodies and promote sustainable tourism practices.

Pioneering Efforts in Sustainable Tourism

The initiative draws inspiration from Pahalgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, which became the first place in the country to adopt Swachhata Green Leaf Rating under the Sustainable Tourism Program. This pioneering effort sets a precedent for other regions to follow in promoting environmentally-friendly tourism practices.
