Udaipur Among 100 Cities Selected for Rooftop Solar Boost

Udaipur, Dec 6, 2025 - The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has launched the City Accelerator Programme to promote rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme. Under this initiative, 100 cities across the country have been selected, including Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer.

Through this programme, activities will be conducted to raise awareness in cities, and vendors will be trained to encourage rooftop solar adoption. Foundation representatives emphasised the importance of spreading awareness about solar energy at the grassroots level.

In Rajasthan, after the approval of virtual net metering and group net metering, even those people who do not have their own roof or adequate space for rooftop installations will now be able to benefit from solar energy. Additionally, rooftop solar installations will receive further momentum through the provision of an additional subsidy of Rs 17,000 by DISCOMs under the 150-unit free electricity scheme.

The scheme also offers loans at an interest rate of 5.75%. Stakeholders associated with the programme have been instructed to raise awareness about these benefits. Efforts are underway to identify the challenges that prevent people from opting for solar installation even after registration.
