Zaheer Abbas, a Haji from Udaipur who disappeared in the stampede at Mina in Saudi Arabia continued to be missing on Friday, eight days of the incident. Abbas’s father Hatim Attari, who was also injured in the stampede, is trying all means to look for his son. The Saudi authorities have claimed most of the pilgrims who were lost in the incidence have been found by now.
Habituallah Attari, Abbas’ uncle, has informed that Consulate General of India, Jeddah is rendering all possible help. Abbas is mentally-challenged and hence may not be able to reach out for help. “They have been searching for my nephew at all possible places. He can communicate with his parents only and would perhaps not be comfortable in talking to others seemed to be a reason that he is still untraceable,” said Habitullah.
Abbas (36) went for pilgrimage with his parents via a private tour operator based in Ahmedabad. Attari was separated from the rest of the family during the chaos that occurred during the ‘stoning of the devil’ ritual. He had fallen unconscious during the stampede, to be rescued by a group of volunteers.
It is said Abbas perhaps would not have been carrying his ID card. It is mandatory for every Haji to have an identity card around their neck. Abbas’ passport number is K80994087.
