Udaipur, May 05, 2026: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the ambitious Jakham–Jaisamand–Badgaon–Matrikundiya water project, has been submitted to the Central Commission for approval. This Rs 10,000 Crore project is a significant inroad to addressing the long-standing water challenge around south Rajasthan. These and further details were shared in a press conference by the Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat.

Transformative Development in South Rajasthan

Once approved and executed, this project will improve the availability of drinking water as well as water for irrigation purpose, across the entire southern Rajasthan. This has been one of the significant pain points of the region for a very long time. The availability of potable and irrigation grade water will offer relief to thousands of families and farmers who, for long, have struggled with scarcity of water. The project will also ensure optimal utilisation of the surplus water resources, which will be a transformative development for the region's future.

Emphasis on Water Projects

This announcement is part of a much larger initiative by the government of Rajasthan to move towards long-term water self-reliance by strengthening water infrastructure. In Udaipur alone, in the last three budgets, projects worth nearly Rs 900 Crore have been approved with work on most of them progressing steadily. These projects carry the promise of stabiity for farming communities, relief from seasonal household shortages and renewed confidence in the development of south Rajasthan.
