Udaipur, March 22, 2025 - Despite the central and state governments allocating substantial funds for waste disposal, garbage piles are still visible in Udaipur and other cities. Instead of proper solid waste disposal, waste is being burned, which is highly hazardous to health. This concern was raised by K.K. Gupta, State Coordinator of Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), Rajasthan Government, and Legal Friend for Urban Bodies in Udaipur, Banswara, and Jhunjhunu. He said that Udaipur, known as the Lake City, is still not fully following solid waste disposal regulations.
Gupta highlighted that in Udaipur and several other places, garbage is dumped in open areas and set on fire. This increases the risk of malaria, dengue, typhoid, fever, asthma, and even cancer. He suggested linking the cleanliness program with the Ayushman Bharat scheme and imposing monetary penalties to ensure proper waste management. Vacant plots in Udaipur are being used as dumping grounds. Gupta said that owners of such plots must be issued notices and strict action must be taken. They should build boundary walls and ensure regular cleaning to stop garbage dumping in these areas.
Gupta stressed that without immediate action, living conditions in the city will become unbearable. Authorities must enforce strict rules to improve waste management in Udaipur.
