Udaipur Local News: Tiger Couple Coming Soon to Sajjangarh Bio Park

 UdaipurTimes, July 30, 2026 | Udaipur Local News: The Forest Department has decided to procure a tiger couple from the well-known Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur. This exercise is meant to replenish the depleted count of tigers in the biological park at Sajjangarh, Udaipur's only populated Zoo.

Over a period of time, the number of tigers has gone down from 5 to one in the last few years. 3 tigers died a natural death and one was killed in an attack by another tiger, who also died eventually. There is just one tiger in the zoo, named 'Vidhya'. The forest department is of the opinion that bringing in a male-female couple will not only provide company to the lone tigress but also enhance the breeding and conservation of tigers here in Udaipur.

The procurement of the tiger couple from Nagpur is subject to approval from the CZA and other stakeholders. The forest department officials explained that this exercise is being held under the wild animals exchange program of the department. In exchange for receiving a tiger and a tigress from Gorewada, the Sajjangarh Bio Park will release wolves and other wild animals for Nagpur.
