Udaipur’s Manan Impresses Defence Chief with AstroBot

The young NCC Sergeant from Udaipur presents his innovative app AstroBot to Chief of Defence Staff at Idea and Innovation Competition of NCC Republic Day Camp 2025

January 18, 2025 - A member of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and a student of Grade 10, NCC Sergeant Manan Sharma of Udaipur has put the city on the national map because of his innovative App AstroBot. The youngster presented his project at the Idea and Innovation Competition of the NCC Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2025 in New Delhi, thus showcasing his talent at the national level.

Among the 56 innovative ideas selected from across the country, Manan's project was particularly appreciated for its unique rationale. This App is designed to provide immense support to amateur astronomers.

The Udaipur youngster Manan had the honour of presenting AstroBot to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.

Overwhelmed by the occasion, Manan said, "Presenting my idea in front of CDS General Anil Chauhan was an unforgettable experience. His appreciation motivates me to further develop AstroBot and make it globally accessible for astronomy enthusiasts."

What is AstroBot?

AstroBot is a user-friendly mobile application that helps amateur astronomers explore and understand the night sky. The App combines features like real-time astronomical tracking, constellation identification and personalised stargazing recommendations based on location and weather conditions. It makes stargazing easier and more enjoyable for both beginner and experienced astronomers.

Manan’s achievements are not limited to NCC. He was selected as a Young Scientist under ISRO's prestigious Young Scientist Programme (YUVIKA) in 2024, where he gained valuable experience in space science and research. In addition, he is a certified Toastmasters speaker and has served as the former president of the Toastmasters Gavel Club.

The Idea and Innovation Competition at RDC 2025 saw presentations based on themes like technology, entrepreneurship and nation building.

The NCC Republic Day Camp is the pinnacle of NCC training, bringing together over 2,000 cadets from various parts of India.
