The UIT had appealed to the District Council in February 2012 to allot a new Marble slurry dumping yard to the Udaipur Marble Association. The current dump yard is presently located at Chitrakoot Nagar in Bhuwana and the members of the association were asked to discontinue dumping slurry at that location three months ago.
The dumping continued, though as an alternative was not made available by the relevant authorities. An extension of a further fifteen days had been given to the Association, within which they needed to find an alternative. The deadline, which expires on Thursday, 21st June, if breached, will result in strict action, said the authorities.
The reason for shifting the dumping yard is to protect the water bodies around the place from the marble waste that was settling in the down-stream areas, as in the rainy season this waste descends to low lying places where potable water is present.
The Marble Association had assigned a committee to work with the UIT in finding a solution to this issue, but no result has yet been achieved out of the efforts.
Anil Nepalia, UIT Executive when asked about the UIT’s action after the expiry period said, “Nothing can be said at present; we will see to it once the time period is over”.
