Udaipur may soon be given the tag of Municipal Corporation
Although the dream of the proposed elevated road has been withdrawn by G.S Sandhu, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing, the other forthcoming developments to the City of Lakes was announced by Sandhu today in a meeting with the Municipal Council. The most important among them being a possible elevation of Udaipur to Municipal Corporation.

“The proposed file is with higher officials and a positive reply might arrive soon within this year” said G.S Sandhu.
Announcements of empanelling a Hi-Tech fire fighting vehicle, facilitating compulsory double basement parking in selected areas, appointed of an Anti-Encroachment control squad are some of the other important topics discussed in the meeting held at Municipal Council office.
G.S Sandhu has announced setting up a fire fighting vehicle with the feature of snorkel. The project is expected to cost up to Rupess Five Crore and the entire cost will be borne by the State Government. The special vehicle will be purchased from Philippines and well trained staff will be appointed for operating the vehicles. Only Jaipur and Jodhpur have such specialized fire fighting vehicles at present.
Focusing on encroachment, Sandhu has directed UMC to appoint an Anti-Encroachment Squad. The special squads will have ex-policemen and ex-Tehsildars to execute the work. “Any commercial activities in residential areas will be considered as encroachment”, he said while directing the UMC officials.
According to Sandhu, Udaipur Municipal Council will be solely responsible for all work and undertaking projects of Gulab Bagh and Lake Fateh Sagar. The UMC, may at their discretion give the contract to 3rd party for any project.
Regarding the mounting problems of road traffic and parking, G.S Sandhu asked the authority to plan out Double Basement Parking which will ease the problem of congestion over roads.
