Following government orders to improve facilities for patients in hospitals due to the intense heat, officials are conducting inspections. On May 27, 2024, Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt and District Collector Arvind Poswal conducted a surprise inspection of Udaipur’s Maharana Bhopal Hospital. They toured the main premises of MB Hospital, including the emergency unit, maternity hospital, and children's hospital. They inspected each ward, checking the arrangements of fans, coolers, and ACs, and interacted with patients and their relatives to assess the availability of drinking water.
During their visit, they identified areas where there was a shortage of coolers and air conditioners for patients and caregivers. They ordered an increase in these cooling devices according to the hospital's electric load capacity. Additionally, they instructed the installation of more tents and coolers in the garden area. This ensures that patients waiting outdoors can find relief from the severe heat. Adequate water supply was also mandated.
Apart from the inspection, officials held a meeting under the Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society (RMS) to discuss further relief measures for patients. Under the direction of Additional Chief Secretary Health Shubhra Singh, Commissioner Bhatt led a meeting of the hospital management under RMS. Discussions covered water, electricity, and medicine supplies in hospitals.
Dr. R.L. Suman of MB Hospital, reported that 180 air conditioners and 203 coolers are installed and operational on the premises for patient comfort. There is an adequate supply of drinking water, and the electricity supply is stable. For potential heatwave patients, 10 beds are reserved in the medical emergency unit and 5 in pediatrics, with more to be added as needed. Essential medicine kits are also prepared.
Additionally, tents covering a 30x30 area have been set up in the park for relatives to sit, with arrangements for drinking water and coolers.
