Udaipur, June 16, 2025 - The last rites of Shubh Modi and Shagun Modi, son and daughter of Udaipur-based marble businessman Sanjeev Modi, who lost their lives in the tragic Air India plane crash on June 12, were held on June 15 in Ahmedabad at around 2:00 pm. A large number of people from Udaipur attended the funeral.
After DNA identification, the family took the bodies from the hospital to their home in Ahmedabad, where traditional rituals were performed. The mortal remains of the siblings were then brought to the crematorium in coffins draped with red chunris (ceremonial cloth). The scene was heart-rending at the crematorium as everyone present broke down.
The mortal remains of Vardi Chand Menaria from Rundeda was also handed over to his family following DNA identification. On June 15 morning, the body of the deceased was taken to his village following which the cremation took place around 9:30 am amid a pall of gloom and grief throughout the village. The last rites were performed by his sons Dinesh and Deepak. Former Vallabhnagar MLA Preeti Shaktawat and former Mavli MLA Dharmnarayan Joshi were present at the funeral.
Meanwhile, the relatives of Prakash Chandra Menaria, a resident of Rohida and colleague of Vardichand Menaria in London, still await completion of the DNA identification before they can bring him home for the last rites. He was also a victim of the Ahmedabad tragedy.
