In a not-so-smart revelation, Udaipur has been named among the 100 most polluted cities in the world as per report the 2018 World Air Quality report presented by IQ AirVisual. Incidentally, 7 out of top 10 most polluted cities in the world are in India.

Gurugram was named as the most polluted city in the world followed by Ghaziabad, Faisalabad (Pakistan), Faridabad (India) and Bhiwadi (India). Udaipur was ranked 94th on the list.

2018 World Air Quality Report presents PM2.5 air quality data as aggregated through the IQAir AirVisual platform in 2018.

The average PM2.5 level in Udaipur was 55.1. This air quality level is considered to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The report focuses on PM2.5 as a representative measure of air pollution. PM2.5 refers to particulate matter (ambient airborne particles) which measure up to 2.5 microns in size, and has a range of chemical makeups and sources. PM2.5 is widely regarded as the pollutant with the most health impact of all commonly measured air pollutants. Due to its small size PM2.5 is able to penetrate deep into the human respiratory system and from there to the entire body, causing a wide range of short- and long-term health effects.

22 of the world’s top 30 polluted cities are in India with 5 in China, 2 in Pakistan and 1 in Bangladesh.
