Udaipur News: Banquet Hall and Coaching Establishment Seized Following Assessment of Fire Safety Norms
Udaipur, 25 June 2026 | Administration News: The Udaipur Municipal Corporation has come cracking down on establishments not in adherence to fire safety and other procedural norms. Two establishments, Mewar Banquet Hall situated near Shilpgram in Udaipur and Balaji Coaching Institute were sealed on Wednesday, June 24 under a special campaign by the UMC, under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna. This negligence in meeting fire safety procedures will not be tolerated, said Khanna.

Earlier last week, a fire at Lucknow in a building housing multiple coaching establishments led to the death of over 15 persons and injured many more. This has served as a wakeup call to local administrative bodies and Udaipur has taken the initiative in this regard by cracking down on those establishments that are not in adherence to safety norms.
Inspections by Fire Department
The Fire department, under the instructions of Khanna are carrying out continuous inspections and surveys. As far as the above named establishments are concerned, the Commissioner informed that Chief Fire Officer Babulal Chaudhary had previously inspected both establishments and issued notices after finding a lack of fire safety equipment and necessary arrangements. The operators were instructed to install fire safety equipment, ensure emergency exit routes, and comply with other safety standards within the stipulated timeframe. Despite this, the establishments failed to make the necessary improvements and showed serious negligence in rectifying safety deficiencies—conduct that cannot be tolerated, he added. This led to Wednesday's action.
Khanna further reiterated that the safety of city residents is the Municipal Corporation's top priority and that no negligence regarding fire safety will be accepted. Ignoring safety standards in public places, banquet halls, coaching institutes, commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, and other crowded establishments directly endangers lives. Consequently, the Corporation is adopting a strict stance in such matters.
Failure to Comply After Issuing Notices
Chaudhary said that continuous surveys and inspections of other establishments in the city are also underway. Establishments found to have fire safety deficiencies will be issued notices in accordance with regulations; if these issues are not rectified within the stipulated time, strict action will be taken, which includes sealing the premises.
Commissioner Makes an Appeal
Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna has appealed to all operators of business establishments, building owners, and commercial entities in the city to ensure full compliance with fire safety standards. He urged them to immediately install necessary firefighting equipment, fire alarm systems, emergency exits, and safety measures to prevent loss of life and property in the event of any potential accident. The Municipal Corporation's campaign will continue with greater intensity in the coming days. Therefore, to avoid any punitive action, operators are advised to promptly meet safety standards and cooperate with the safety drive being conducted by the Corporation.
