Udaipur Passport Office Will Be Enhanced to PSP V2.0, Enabling Issuance of e-Passports
Faster passport processing, digital integration with national systems, and e-passports with RFID chips -a major step for Udaipur's growing Passport demand
Udaipur, Dec 06, 2025: The Udaipur Passport Seva Kendra will be upgraded to PSP V2.0. This was confirmed by Kirtivardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs. The MoS was responding to multiple queries raised by Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat in the Parliament. Rawat's queries were centered around the applications and issuance of Passports and the proposal to upgrade Udaipur Passport Seva Kendra to Regional Passport Office.

In his response, MoS said that in the last 9 years, 162,580 Passport applications have been received from Udaipur. Of these 157,162 Passports have been issued. Hence considering the volume of applications from Udaipur, the Government has decided to upgrade Udaipur PSK to level PSP V2.0, which included plans for the upgradation and scalability of each PSK. He added that the Ministry is also taking steps to expedite the passport issuance process, which includes increasing the appointments, special drives on weekends and working with additional staff to clear backlogs.
What is PSP V2.0
In a major digital push, India launched e-Passports in line with the PSP V2.0 program in November 2025. It was branded 'Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (PSP V2.0) for domestic users and Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0) for missions overseas. The upgrade connected 37 regional passport offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras, 450 Post Office PSKs and more than 190 embassies and consulated to a single cloud platform. Udaipur will join this list now. The centrepiece is India's first ICAO compliant e-Passport. Each booklet will carry and embedded RFID chip and antenna that will mirror data printed on the photo-page, enbabling automated authentication at e-gates worldwide and reducing cloning risk significantly.
What is an e-Passport
As per the Ministry of External Affairs, the e-passport is a hybrid passport that combines both paper and electronic elements. It features an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and an antenna, which store and secure the holder’s data in accordance with international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
Genesis of the PSP V2.0
The PSP V2.0 project was envisaged in 2022, to enhance e-Governance in Passport issuance, focussing on timeliness, transparency and accountability. Key elements of V2.0 include modern digital ecosystem, upgraded technology, enhanced data security and a robust infrastructure for processing. This also facilitated the introduction of e-Passports to boost security and customer satisfaction.
The upgrade positions India to join the club of e-Passport nations just as the EU and Gulf states roll out biometric-only border gates.
