Rajasthan’s 23 districts have been identified for a Sub-National Polio Vaccination Programme. The 23 districts include Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Churu, Dausa, Dungarpur, Jaiselmer, Jalore, Jhalawar, Nagaur, Tonk, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Bundi, Sikar, Alwar, Barmer, Bharatpur, Sirohi and Jodhpur. Children up to 5 years old will be given polio drops in these districts on May 28, 2023.

The reason behind this initiative is because there is always a risk of spreading polio in these districts. In Pakistan and Afghanistan cases have been reported and so being close to Rajasthan, it is risky for the state as well. The government is taking precautions beforehand only.

56,021 booths will be set up in this campaign and polio drops will be administered to 86.81 lakh children. 85,708 health workers have been given responsibility to provide the polio drops house-to-house, mobile and transit teams.

Earlier in 2022, the first Sub-National Immunization Day saw the administering of polio vaccine drops in 11 states and UTs including Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh. The campaign was held by the Government of India.
