Rs 354 crore project under Amrit Bharat Scheme; redevelopment work progressing rapidly
Udaipur, February 8, 2025 - The redevelopment work of City Railway Station is being carried out under the Amrit Bharat scheme at a cost of Rs 354 crore. The project aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers. The work has been ongoing for the past two years and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The foundation work for the platforms has been in progress for the past few months, with about 70% of it completed. The structures of buildings at both the first and second entries have also been completed. Soon, finishing work like false ceiling and plastering will begin. To complete the project on time, more than 250 workers are working in different shifts, 24 hours a day. The total redevelopment area is 86,248 square meters.
At the second entry, one entry/exit gate is already in place, and two more gates are being constructed nearby. A hose system is being set up to supply water throughout the station and to trains. A water tank is also being built.
Once the foundation work is completed, a roof covering approximately one kilometer will be installed, stretching from Savina end to Udiapol end, covering all platforms.
The station will have 20 lifts and 26 escalators for passenger convenience. Other facilities will include:
12 booking windows
Two tourist information centers
Three prepaid taxi kiosks
A clock room and inquiry counter
A porter room and baby care room
An AC lounge and retiring rooms
20 kiosks, a pantry, and a reception
Six baggage scanners
Seating arrangements for 1,000 people
Two foot over bridges (FOBs) will be constructed for easy movement between platforms. One old bridge has been removed, and a new foundation has been prepared. A 4-meter-wide skywalk will connect both FOBs. Each platform will have lifts and escalators.
The station will have parking space for 288 four-wheelers. A 2,000 kWp solar plant will be developed to generate electricity, reducing power dependency. A special Grid Substation (GSS) has also been built for an uninterrupted power supply.
The ticket counters will be on the ground floor of both entry buildings. The first entry building is elevated, so passengers will need to go down one level to reach the platforms. Railway offices will be located on the first floors of both buildings.
Currently, the station handles about 20,000 passengers daily, with over 50 trains operating. After redevelopment, the station will be able to serve 40,000 passengers daily.
The project is progressing rapidly, with several key components already completed or near completion. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
