Rains continue to lash Udaipur and some pockets are witnessing heavy downpour for the last 24 hours. Neighboring Mewar districts of Dungarpur and Banswar too continue to be on the rain alert radar for 27th and 28th August.
In the meanwhile, the rains over the last couple day in the parched valley of Udaipur has led to some much awaited developments, one of them being the flow of the Sisarma river, which is one of the main sources of water in Pichhola, the largest reservoir of fresh water in the city area of Udaipur. Pichhola sets the benchmark for tourism in the City of Lakes.
As last reported, Pichhola has touched the 6ft mark with another 5ft to cover to completely fill this beautiful water body that houses the world famous Jag Mandir and Lake Palace Hotel and hosts the hottest hospitality properties on its banks, viz. Trident, Udai Vilas, Leela, etc.
The outskirts of the city were filled with tourists and local residents out on excursions and picnics over the weekend and trekking and cycling enthusiasts on weekdays and otherwise as the rains and clouds gave Udaipur its pristine look that the town yearns for year on year, to keep its tourism momentum right up there.
Asst Engineer at the PHED informed media that as of close of day on 26 August, Alsigarh recorded the maximum rainfall at 15mm, followed by Vallabhnagar 9mm, Nai 6mm and Madar 5mm. Rains are expected to come pouring over Udaipur and other parts of Southern Rajasthan till 29 August as per the current assessment of the Met department.
Met Department has indicated that Sirohi, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Pratapgarh districts should expected rainfall between 5-15mm/hr between 12pm till 3:30pm on 27 August, moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41-61kmph (in gusts) and 30-60% of lightning occurrence.
