Udaipur was ranked a lowly 310 according to the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’ announced today by the Government. Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) were respectively ranked as the cleanest and the dirtiest cities in the survey.

The survey was carried out by the government for measuring the progress of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and for taking stock of the on-ground activities.

The list was announced today by Union minister for urban development, M Venkaiah Naidu. He, in his tweet, said that this year’s results of sanitation and cleanliness were encouraging.

Udaipur was ranked 417 out of 476 cities surveyed in last August. Hence, this year’s ranking come as a significant improvement over last year’s position but Udaipur still needs to go a long way.

Bundi was the cleanest city in Rajasthan with a rank of 171 followed by Sikar (180), Pali (186) and Jodhpur (209). Udaipur ranked 13th out of 29 cities surveyed in Rajasthan.

The top ten clean cities in India were as follows: Indore -1, Bhopal-2, Vishakhapatnam-3, Surat-4, Mysuru-5, Tiruchirapally-6, New Delhi Municipal Council-7, Navi Mumbai-8, Tirupati-9 and Vadodara-10

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh account for 31 of the top 50 clean cities. At the other end, Rajasthan and Punjab have 5 towns each in the bottom 50. Out of the 62 cities surveyed in UP, 41 featured in bottom 100.
