Udaipur's Iconic Shepherd Memorial Church in Chetak Circle will celebrate 132 Years of worship on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 honoring its historic status as the city's oldest church. Dr. James Shepherd, a resident of Aberdeen, Scotland, was the esteemed founder of the church that bears his name. In addition to serving as a church pastor, Dr. Shepherd was a skilled human doctor.

During the distressing plague epidemic that ravaged the Mewar region, he selflessly provided commendable medical services. His unwavering dedication and exceptional care earned him the esteemed Kesar-e-Hind medal, bestowed upon him twice by Maharana Fateh Singh in recognition of his invaluable contributions.

Engineer Thomson Campbell played a pivotal role in overseeing the construction of the church building. Not only was he responsible for this magnificent church, but he also undertook various other notable projects. Among his remarkable achievements are the construction of the Fateh Sagar Dam, the Udaipur-Chittor meter gauge railway line, and the Saraswati Library situated in Gulab Bagh, Udaipur. To commemorate the completion of 132 years since the establishment of the church building, a special thanksgiving service is scheduled to take place on July 5, 2023 at 6:00 pm. The service will feature Father Emmanuel Damore delivering an inspiring message, accompanied by special programs presented by the Church's children, youth, and women organizations.
