Udaipur’s students under the banner of Student Federation of India expressed their concern and protested against the alleged racial discrimination which is linked to the suicide of Rohit Vemula, a dalit student of PhD at Hyderabad Central University.
Students of Mohanlal Sukhadiya University’s Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges protested in campus and distributed pamphlets to raise their voice against discrimination based on caste and creed.
According to the information provided through several media sources, Rohit Vemula and five other students of Hyderabad University were dispelled from university hostel and banned from all public places, canteen and library after a complaint was lodged against them which was later found false. Still Rohit and his friends who were also active members of Ambedkar Student Association were not allowed in hostel. Depressed and frustrated, Rohit committed suicide which sparked nationwide protest over the university administration and political parties for discrimination.
The Student Federation of India’s Udaipur Chapter claimed that while they were protesting in college, some students representing ABVP forced them to stop and also tore down posters and pamphlets of Rohit.
