The frightening situation of a drought hit Rajasthan might get a breather to an extent if the Cloud Seeding – the simulated rain creation program initiated by Vedanta succeeds in quenching the thirst of the arid lands.
A well equipped air plane of Agni Aero Sports Adventure, a Bangalore based aerospace organization is waiting at Dabok airport to fly over the right type of clouds suitable for seeding.
“We are undertaking the cloud seeding program in various districts of Mewar including Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Bhilwara” said Pavan Kaushik, Head of Corporate Communications of Udaipur based Hindustan Zinc Ltd, a Vedanta company.
Kaushik told UT “The state is already under a drought like situation and we hope our attempt could facilitate rain in a few areas.”
Cloud Seeding is a method to change the rain amount by diffusing the substance into air that works as cloud condensation and changes microphysical development.
Silver iodide is commonly used for Cloud Seeding, along with solid Carbon Dioxide and liquid Propane.
In India, Cloud Seeding was first experimented in Sholapur, Maharashtra and later many states including Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have benefitted from the procedure.
If this rain creation method appears to be a success in Rajasthan, humongous relief seems to be awaiting the farmers of the state.
