Udaipur, December 28,2024 - Udaipur is facing a unique challenge as tourism peaks while the RPSC recruitment exam is set to begin. The exam will run from December 28 to 31, 2024, with 78,000 candidates enrolled. Meanwhile, over 1 lakh tourists are expected to visit the city for New Year celebrations, putting pressure on local infrastructure.

High Number of Tourists Arriving

Tourism in Udaipur is at its peak, with around 20,000 tourists arriving daily. Popular tourist spots like the City Palace, Saheliyon Ki Bari, and Sajjangarh Fort are seeing large crowds. The City Palace alone attracts about 12,000 visitors every day. Tourists are arriving from various states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Hyderabad.

Hotel Room Shortage

Hotel bookings in the city are nearly full. Most hotels are already booked, and only a few rooms are left on online booking platforms. Budget hotels, especially in Udiapol, are completely booked, making it difficult for large groups to find accommodation. Surendra Kumar, treasurer of the Udaipur Travel Agent Association, mentioned that even regular hotels are around 90% full.

To manage the rush, tourists are choosing two popular packages: a 4-night, 5-day package that includes Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh, Mount Abu, and Jawai, and a 7-night, 8-day package covering Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer.

Traffic Jams Expected

With both the tourism rush and the RPSC exam, Udaipur is likely to face daily traffic jams. The Udiapol-Surajpol area, a key location for both tourists and exam candidates, will experience congestion for four days. This could cause delays for tourists traveling by buses.

Impact on Budget-Friendly Tourists

Due to the heavy booking in the city, budget-friendly tourists will have to look for accommodation outside Udaipur. Rakesh Choudhary, Secretary of the Hotel Institute of Southern Rajasthan, said that hotels in Udiapol and Surajpol are fully booked, and tourists may need to stay in hotels located outside the city.
