The recent knife attack incident at a school in Udaipur has significantly impacted the city's tourism sector. On Friday, August 16,2024 the city welcomed 10,000 tourists, but by the following night, approximately 20% had already departed. The Hotel Association reports that around 200 hotel rooms have remained vacant over the past two days.

Tourists Department Issued Safety Guidelines

Tourists are increasingly concerned about their safety, prompting many to inquire with the tourism department about the security of their stay. In response, the department has issued safety guidelines and identified specific areas deemed secure for visitors. Despite these precautions, popular tourist spots have seen a noticeable decline in crowds.

These Places Usually Remain Crowded

Saheliyon Ki Bari: Normally the most frequented attraction, Saheliyon Ki Bari saw only about 20% of its usual visitors on Saturday. An employee at the ticket window noted a sharp drop in attendance, with only a few anxious tourists present.

Gulab Bagh Toy Train: The Gulab Bagh Toy Train, which usually attracts a large number of visitors, reported a decrease to just 25% of its typical tourist volume. Each train ride, with a capacity of 120, only carried about 30 passengers.

Jagdish Chowk Road: Typically bustling with tourists, Jagdish Chowk Road and the surrounding Old City were nearly deserted on Saturday. Major landmarks, including Jagdish Temple, Mahalaxmi Temple, the City Palace gate, and Gangaur Ghat, saw only a handful of visitors.

Moti Magri: The Moti Magri monument, dedicated to Maharana Pratap, experienced a significant drop in visitors. The adjacent areas, including Mumbaiya Bazaar and Sukhadia Circle, which are usually crowded, were notably empty.

Fateh Sagar: Boating activity at Fateh Sagar Lake also fell below the usual levels. Boat operator Prince reported that only about 55% of the usual tourists participated in boating activities on Saturday.

The President of the Hotel Association, Sudarshan Singh Karohi, reported a 20% cancellation rate for hotel bookings. Despite this, local hotels are committed to supporting tourists and ensuring a comfortable stay. Karohi assured visitors that there is no need to panic and encouraged them to enjoy their visit.

Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, Shikha Saxena, confirmed that the department has provided tourists with information about safe places to visit. She advised tourists to keep their phones handy, especially due to internet outages, and encouraged them to contact authorities if they encounter any issues. The department has instructed hotel officials to offer full support and positive assistance to all visitors, whether they choose to stay or leave.
