Udaipur Vande Bharat waiting for green signal since 1 month

This delay has resulted in daily losses for the Railways

A month has been passed since the introduction of Vande Bharat Train in Udaipur. On August 11 2023, the 8 coaches train of this series arrived in Udaipur from Chennai, sparking new hope among the city's residents. This train, operating between Udaipur and Jaipur, is anticipated to boost tourism in the region. Following a successful trial run on August 13, 2023 between Udaipur and Jaipur, it was expected to commence regular operations shortly thereafter. However, for the past month, the train has been parked on line number 6 at the city station, awaiting its official inauguration. This delay has resulted in daily losses ranging from Rs 5 to 8 lakhs for the Railways.

The railway management initiates and suspends train services once a week under the guise of maintenance. Notably, during a visit by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the city's residents presented a memorandum requesting the commencement of this train service. In reality, the launch announcement will be made from the Prime Minister's Office, with only Prime Minister Narendra Modi having the authority to give it the go-ahead.

This coach train offers approximately 530 seats. According to experts, the potential fare for this service could range from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500. In such a scenario, if 500 passengers utilize this train daily for a round trip, and the fare remains at Rs 1000, the Railways would generate a daily income of Rs 5 lakh. Consequently, the Railways has incurred an estimated loss of Rs 1.5 crore until now. However, if the train operates at full passenger capacity, this figure would double, reaching a total of 1 crore.

Currently, there are 8 trains operational between Udaipur and Jaipur, with 4 of them operating on a daily basis. The first of these trains departs at 6:00 am, while the second leaves at 12:25 am. In contrast, the proposed schedule for the Vande Bharat train is set for 8:10 am, potentially offering advantages to passengers. However, Ajmer division's DRM Rajeev Dhankar has clarified that there is no fixed launch date yet for the Vande Bharat and Heritage trains. Work on their implementation is currently underway.
