If the traffic is free of the jams, and the city’s roads repaired and smoothened; it certainly will feel like heaven. To deal with the pressure of traffic and to free the markets from the burden of traffic, a new parking lot is on the cards for Udaipur city. This parking lot will be a mechanised/automated one and as per reports, work has already commenced on this project.

Surajpole’s tanga stand area is going to be converted into a mechanical parking area which will accommodate 86 cars. The estimated budget for this 6-storeyed parking area is 6.1 crore rupees. The mechanical parking will provide ease and comfort to the local public and tourists as well especially for their shopping needs. Mostly people avoid the main market areas of Udaipur during the tourist season as traffic jams are a common issue here. Vehicles cannot be parked outside the showrooms and the discomfort faced by the public forces them to stay away from the city’s main market which has been a source of everyday supplies.

Now that the work order has been issued, the work for this most needed automated parking has commenced. Since the work has to be completed in 6 months’ time, the work may be carried out even during the late hours. It is being hoped that if the work is carried out in the specified way, it will certainly be completed in 6 months.

It may be noted that a parking lot is ready in SIERT campus which has attracted a budget of 50 lakh rupees and work is going on for parking areas in Nada Khada, one near Chandpole gate, another one near RMV and one in MB Hospital campus. It is yet another issue that work for parking area at Kishanpole corner near Gulab Bagh had to be stopped following a stay order and the parking near RNT Medical College hostel is being opposed by students. The basement and ground parking lots in Town hall are now being utilised by public as the ticket rates have been reduced by the contractor.
