Udaipur, January 18, 2025 - The University Grants Commission (UGC) has imposed a ban on three universities in Rajasthan, preventing them from enrolling PhD students for a period of five years. This ban will be enforced starting from the 2025-26 academic year and will last until the 2029-30 academic year. The affected universities are OPJS University located in Churu, Sunrise University in Alwar, and Singhania University in Jhunjhunu.

The UGC's decision comes after a detailed investigation into the universities' procedures for awarding PhD degrees. It was found that these institutions failed to follow the prescribed guidelines and procedures set by the UGC for the granting of doctoral degrees. The UGC had earlier provided these universities with an opportunity to address the concerns raised about their PhD programs, but their responses were deemed unsatisfactory.

Following a thorough review and recommendations from a committee, the UGC has decided to impose this stringent measure to ensure that academic standards are maintained and that PhD programs across India adhere to the prescribed norms. The ban will affect the universities' ability to enroll new PhD students, significantly impacting their academic offerings for the next five years.
