Khel Gaon, the sports complex being constructed at Bhuwana, Udaipur under the charge of the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT), received a major setback when it was discovered that there is inadequate water supply in the area.
The Swimming Pool at the Khel Gaon has already taken its final shape a year back and is in a position to be handed over to the District Sports Council.
Immediately after the declaration of the fiscals for the year 2012-13, the pending work at UIT has gained pace, which also includes building the Khel Gaon Sports Complex being one of the major projects of UIT. This task, though now completed is facing water problems due to the bad water table in that particular locality.
According to the Engineer at UIT, the swimming pool, which is the only constructed part of Khel Gaon has suffered a set-back even before being handed over to the sports council. The Engineers have attempted for digging through for a tube well but did not find the water table. Just recently though, a water well in the area has been identified as an additional source of water supply. The sample from the well is being sent across to Jaipur for testing.
Hence, if the sample is approved, additional testing will take place and the handover will be delayed by approximately 6 months. In case the sample fails in quality tests, then the UIT will have no other option than to facilitate transporting water from other areas to fulfil the requirement of the pool.
As per information provided by the concerned authorities this swimming pool was constructed after incurring a cost of Rs. 2.37 Crore; covers around 1000 sq. meter of individual space in total, and is being facilitated with 8 swimming lanes with a maximum depth of 2.0 meter and 1.35 meter at the beginning of the pool, following international standards.
According to Anil Nepaliya, Executive Engineer, UIT, “We have kept the problem under priority and will be solving it shortly to bring the pool in working conditions”.
